The goal of the Music Ministry of Union UMC is to enable all persons to experience the presence of God through congregational singing and the inspiration of choral and instrumental music and dance. Those who participate in our various music groups will find the opportunity for spiritual growth and Christian fellowship, as well as the development of musical skills. Anyone age 3 and up is invited to give of their time and talents through membership in choral, instrumental, handbell and dance programs.

Children's Choirs (ages 3 years – 5th grade)
Union UMC provides singing opportunities for ALL children. The Preschool Choirs sing for the Christmas presentation and at the 10:45 a.m. traditional service during the Spring. The 1st – 5th grade Choirs sing every four to six weeks at the 10:45 a.m. traditional service and give a Christmas presentation and Spring musical each year.

Rehearsal times: Sundays, September - April

4:30 – 5:00 p.m. – Preschool Choir (ages 3*, 4 & 5)
(*Age 3 by Sept. 1st)
4:00 – 5:00 p.m. – Carol & Sonshine Choirs (1st - 5th grades)


Union Singers (Youth 6th – 12th grade)
The Union Singers are a group of teenagers who love to sing a wide variety of musical styles including traditional, contemporary and gospel. This choir presents a special program in the spring and has planned special presentations with the Chancel Choir and the Children’s Choirs.

Rehearsal time: Sundays, 5:00 – 6:00 p.m.


Chancel Choir
The Chancel Choir provides musical leadership each Sunday for the 10:45 a.m. traditional worship service. The Choir sings a wide variety of musical styles from traditional church anthems, classical works, world music, and gospel favorites. In additional to Sunday morning worship the Chancel Choir presents special musical programs at Christmas and in the spring with orchestra. The choir has sung for community events and has traveled to Europe to perform.

Rehearsal time: Wednesdays, 7:30 – 9:00 p.m.


Spirited Singers (age 50 plus)
The Spirited Singers provides musical leadership each Sunday for the 8:30 a.m. traditional worship service. They sing at area nursing homes and at locations throughout the region. This group is perfect for those who love to sing and enjoy fellowship!

Rehearsal time: Wednesdays, 6:00 – 6:45 p.m.


Good News Ringers (2nd – 5th grade)
This is an introductory handbell choir for any child.

Rehearsal time: Sundays 3:15 – 4:00 p.m. (January - April)


Mary Bonnett Chancel Chimers (adult)
This adult handbell choir is comprised of 14 ringers who play for the 10:45 a.m. traditional service on a regular basis. The Chimers also ring for special presentations at Christmas and the Spring.

Rehearsal time: Sundays, 5:00 – 6:00 p.m.


Union Brass Ensemble (adult)
This group is comprised of brass players who play regularly for the 10:45 a.m. traditional service. The ensemble also plays for various community events and participates in playing jazz music at our annual Fat Tuesday Pancake Supper.

Rehearsal time: Tuesdays, 7:30 – 9:00 p.m.


Youth String Ensemble (6th - 12th grade)
The youth ensemble offers an opportunity for our youth to play several times a year at the traditional worship service.

Rehearsal time: Sundays, 4:00 – 5:00 p.m.


Junior Leaps of Faith (1st – 5th grade)
This group provides an opportunity for our children to dance in worship and during our Christmas presentation each year.

Rehearsal time: Sundays, 3:15 – 4:00 p.m (meets in the Fall)


Leaps of Faith (6th grade – Adult)
This group is comprised of youth and adults who dance for worship and special programs throughout the church year.

Rehearsal time: Wednesdays, 7:00 – 8:00 p.m.




The Music Ministry of Union UMC provides a Community Concert Series each Winter/Spring season. These events are usually held Friday evenings at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary. The concerts are free; however, a donation is appreciated for future music programs. Concerts include a wide variety of styles and genres. Past events have included Ragtime and Jazz with Dick Goodwin, USC Steel Drums, The Palmetto Mastersingers, The Sandlapper Singers, and the South Carolina Philharmonic.
